Sustainable digitalisation at the Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und der Länder (VBL)

13. November 2019

The Versorgungsanstalt des Bundes und der Länder (VBL) has been providing public-sector occupational pensions for 80 years. It is the largest provider of supplementary pensions in Germany. Occupational pensions are based on the collective labour agreements negotiated between employers and the unions.

The customer platform My VBL (http://www.meinevbl.de) is a prime example of a functioning digitization.

More than 4 Mio VBL customers can use a variety of online services there, which are available through online and mobile access quickly, transparently and around the clock. Here, paper-based processes have already been replaced by electronic processes. One of the most widely used online services is the online pension application. Complete digital pension applications can be processed within a few working days in the VBL. These media-disruptive processes accelerate internal processes, help identify errors, and can automatically trigger information back to the customer.

As more and more insured use My VBL and thus actively dispense with the paper delivery, the VBL can now save annually more than 1.7 million sheets of paper. That corresponds to 25 tons of wood.

In the meantime, more than 500,000 customers use the VBL customer portal based on the SITEFORUM digitization platform. Learn more about sustainable digitalisation at the VBL (German language only).
