Release History

 

SITEFORUM's first commercial release was in December 1999 and we ship new product releases and versions on a regular basis. Minor bugfix releases or critical security releases become available several times per quarter. We follow rapid and agile development cycles which enable us to keep our customers at the forefront of internet technology.


Below is a list of the past major releases and a short description about the latest features and improvements. Each software release is designed to improve overall usability of the product and make it easier to use for everybody. We recognize major trends and developments quickly and make them usable for our customers. We are proud to have lots of customers that keep us innovative and submit great ideas and feature requests via our Customer Community.

Release 9.0 represents a milestone in the history of SITEFORUM. A number of completely new applications as well as the comprehensive revision of existing functions designed to streamline your online processes. Version 9 facilitates your day to day tasks and improves communication with customers, employees, partners and suppliers.

Intelligent project and task management

The new project and task management allows you to manage your tasks more efficiently in different projects. Based on the well known user groups, protected access is also possible. Quickly view open tasks or the status of a project. The ability to quickly create tasks from other applications such as Webmail or Helpdesk ensures that assignments get done. This application is available to our EnterpriseCloud customers.

User Policies

New user guidelines in your portal settings help with the legally secure management of GTCs, Terms of Use and other confirmation-related regulations in your portal.

Interfaces connecting with Facebook and Twitter

The interface for sharing on Facebook and Twitter has been completely revised. Connect your Facebook company page, Facebook page or Twitter account, and share stories, blogs, and other content from your portal time-controlled as required.

Responsive Design

Thanks to the revised interface of the Portal Manager and the improved structure, you can also work on mobile devices on your portal in a user-friendly manner.

Release 8.1 is once again a solid development of the software and you can look forward to numerous improvements. Following the major release, 8.0, this new release contains further optimizations, especially for content management. The focus has been set on consolidation of existing features in order to make your daily business both efficient and target-oriented.

More Media Pool usability

The Media Pool has received another usability makeover with version 8.1. It is now much easier for users to upload new files and to embed images or documents in stories and blogs. With release 8.1 images and documents are directly embedded into the editor and displayed with a preview instead of the placeholder. A new image editor makes it very easy to save an image with new dimensions, to rotate it or to crop it.

New story inline editing

After introducing a new editor with SITEFORUM release 8.0 the next enhancement is ready to be deployed in version 8.1: Inline-Editing, the second level of improvements for the Content Management System. Inline-Editing allows quick text modifications without switching to the complex story edit process in Portal Manager. All modifications are made and saved directly in the front-end.

Improved portal activity statistics

The section Tools & Administration > Statistic received a comprehensive update. Obsolete statistics have been removed and replaced with new overviews. The activity report, which didn’t cover all sections of the portal in the past, now contains various applications, grouped per module. Widgets clearly display totals and changes within a period.

Release 8.0 marks another milestone in SITEFORUM’s history and has been released in Autumn 2014. It is an overall improvement of the software and comes with lots of great new features. Also, existing features have been consolidated, replaced or given a complete makeover to make sure you get the most efficient tools to support your business.

New fully integrated Editor

Throughout the portal you find a new and fully integrated WYSIWYG editor with a huge featureset for easy content creation in all SITEFORUM modules. We have chosen the CKEditor which has a large open source community, is compatible with all browsers, and allows BBcode and Add-ons. See http://cksource.com for more details. We provide different versions of the editor for different content types and you will be able to select which type you would like to use for your content. We also added a caching mechanism so you don’t have to start from scratch when you leave the page by mistake or your session expired. In case you run own applications in your SITEFORUM portal you will find easy guidelines how to integrate this new WYSIWYG editor.

Improved Subscription Management

The subscription management has been heavily improved and enhanced with release 8.0. This enables you to subscribe to public media pool folders and receive notifications when new files are available in these folders. In the company directory you are able to allow your registered users to follow companies of their choice in order to receive alerts when the company posts new content or uploads new files. A great benefit for companies and your users.

New security feature “Temporary Login”

This new feature supports high data protection transparency as it enables Portal Masters to nominate a specific user for a login as another user for a limited period of time. This can be very helpful for support incidents or when staff members are on temporary leave and you have to replace them. The nominated user is informed via email that they’ve got a temporary login and can access the portal with the other user’s privileges without knowing the login details. Everything is tracked and available for Portal Masters in their history. You can also switch on email notifications for the user who’s login is being used.

Visitors and users in your portal generate a huge amount of data each and every day. They view, create and comment content, upload and share files, visit other profiles, receive campaigns and much more. SITEFORUM tracks all these activities but what does that mean for your business? How can you use all the information to improve the user experience and provide the right information for your leads and customers? This is the big challenge for every business and we want to enable you to use this "big data" in a reasonable manner. Our 7.4 release will help meet this target.

New statistic and reporting facilities

With this upcoming release you will be experiencing major improvements in the statics area of the portal. We are not only planning to update and unify existing statistics with our event tracking but also to include a comprehensive graphic report dashboard. Furthermore, 7.4 will include enhanced user statistics and also company reporting facilties that add value to your vendor directories as company owners can see how successful their profile is.

Improved event module

The network calendar will be renewed with improved designs, easier handling and readable url's to support search engine optimization and easy share of events in other social networks. Also, we are going to replace the Netviewer software with the more flexible GoToMeeting software which enables you to create web conferences directly in the portal.

Renewed user profiles and privacy settings

Data protection is key - both when you are using the CRM facilities of the portal and also when establishing a community where users manage their own profiles and share content. That is why we will renew the user profile and the privacy settings in release 7.4.

The upcoming release 7.3 is a consequent advancement of release 7.2. It focuses on the unification of the file systems and along with that improved search facilities. Especially the new search capability for groups lets members find content way quicker than it used to be in the past.

Media Pool Enhancements

The Media Pool is going to be the leading system for file management. We already started to pave the way in previous releases and migrated files that have been stored in other locations to the Media Pool (e.g. company logos and files). With this release the user files will be migrated to the Media Pool which means that every user is going to have his private Media Pool to share files with contacts or the public.

We also included further improvements like an option to switch on a time control just like for stories in menus. This enables you to manage the visibility of files in folders by defining its start and expiry date. The File Manager will receive a notification mail when the expiration date is reached. There will also be a new display of document lists in the Media Pool view with automatically generated file previews and new templates for embedding document lists into stories or widgets. Additionally, files can be forwarded to others via email. It is also possible to migrate DMS files and folders manually to the Media Pool via the import function.

Improved Search Facilities

Search facilities in the portal will be unified and heavily improved. It will be easy to search in all areas of the portal or to select a certain application like users, companies, files, stories or blogs. The auto suggest feature lets you quickly find the things you were looking for. We are also going to introduce the same search within groups where only group content is included in the search results.

Selection of other improvements:

  • Storage space of Media Pool files can be set individually for each group - the standard value is 100 MB
  • Applications "Ideas" and "Surveys" have been added to the notification email for new group content in order to alert members when new ideas and surveys have been posted
  • Minor improvements for account widget layouts, better handling of attachments for notes and actions and removal from "Media" (file management now completely via Media Pool)

Our autumn release includes many improvements of features that you are already familiar with but also brandnew enhancements. We are continuosly pursuing our goal to make mass collaboration for our clients easier and support their business with valuable features. Enabling collaboration between employees, customers, suppliers and even website visitors is SITEFORUM's main mission since many years. That is why group activities, file sharing, real-time document collaboration as well as improved comment and subscription abilities are highlighted in this autumn release.

Activity Feed

We are exceptionally glad that the long-awaited Activity Feed finally found its way into our standard product. See what happens in your network or your groups at a glance. Comment activities and don't miss any news of your contacts or in your project groups.

System E-Mails

System Emails are used each and every day in your portal. Without them, no notifications about new activities from the network, no content management workflows and no membership information would be send to your users. To simplify the administration and modification of system emails, we will completely renew this module with release 7.2. This allows you to add attachments based on the language, to preview and to send each system email as a test and to reset single system emails. In addition developers can easily setup and implement custom emails.

Design Panel and responsive designs

Mobile accessibility of websites and online platforms is vital since the extraordinary triumph of smart phones, tablets and other mobile devices. SITEFORUM is keeping up with the pace and delivers responsive designs to make sure that you can run your daily business on any device.
In addition, with the new 7.2 Design Panel it is as easy as never before to customize the portal layout and all page arrangements. Chose from a broad range of templates, images and backgrounds or upload your own files. Since the Design Manager is located in the portal frontend it allows you to have a realtime preview of all your settings. Of course, your visitors won't see any changes until you save your new design.

Just three month after our major release 7.0 we are glad to present the follow-up version.

This time we clearly put the development focus on one of the core features of all communities: Group Collaboration.

Heavy enhancements make groups even more valuable: Group Managers can run surveys exclusively for group members and modify the group navigation according to their individual requirements. They can collect ideas and let members rate them with the new Idea Management Application which can be added to the group features. The media pool app allows group managers and members to upload and organize files in folder structure.

Another highlight of v7.1. is the capability to setup "self-organizing teams and communities". This allows you to define your customers main contact person and also assign one or many groups to this company. Your customer can then organize their teams themselves and all team members will be automatically assigned to the defined groups. You can use this to create customer communities for product and service innovation.
